Raw honey. Not just for tea anymore. Also for your FACE.
Sometimes my favorite Sunday morning self-care rituals include a warm cup of freshly brewed jasmine green tea and a sticky, soothing raw honey face mask. (Not pictured —> the giant piece of sprouted einkorn sourdough toast topped with balsamic feta spread from the farmers market and a pasture-raised fried egg that is currently also in my face).
In my latest Purposeful Living post, I mentioned how I've been spending the last few years transitioning over to completely natural skincare and beauty products (including makeup, toothpaste, deodorant, soaps, shampoos, and so on). So, it would only make sense that a few of my favorite kitchen ingredients have made their way into my bathroom routine now, too.
Using raw honey as a face mask is a great way to unclog pores, gently exfoliate, and completely nourish your skin without harsh chemicals or aggressive exfoliants. Raw honey is loaded with antioxidants, helping to prevent aging and keep your face radiant. Raw honey is also naturally antibacterial, and can help to prevent or reduce acne. I have found that using raw honey as a face mask give my skin this extra special glow that I just can't get with commercial products.
My favorite honey to use for face masks is from Beekeper's Naturals B.Powered blend, which contains royal jelly (incredible for skin health), propolis, and pollen. The gritty texture helps to gently exfoliate skin and remove oil and dirt buildup from clogged pores.
Want to do one? It’s so easy!
Wash your face with a natural cleanser, and let air-dry or pat down with a clean towel.
Apply honey all over your face with your fingertips, using light pressure and a slow circular motion to exfoliate. I like to also rub the honey around on my lips to clear off dead skin (makes them so soft!).
Leave the entire mask on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse clean with warm water, and pat dry or let air-dry. Spritz a toner of choice (I like witch hazel or rosewater), and apply your favorite day/night cream. Voila!
If you like putting food on your face, you will love this. I cannot recommend it enough!
