Earl Grey Tea & Rose Latte

Earl Grey Tea & Rose Latte

Want to be transported to the feeling of a morning at the spa? I do, too. This tea will help get you there. I like to call it, "Self Care In A Cup."

Deep and earthy earl grey tea, floral rose petals, and sweet vanilla bean ghee combine with cashew milk and raw honey to create this frothy, blissful blender latte.

I love having a big batch of homemade cashew milk on hand for my tea lattes, smoothies, oatmeal, etc. It's really quite an easy process, too: Soak 1 cup of raw cashews in a big bowl of water with a pinch of sea salt, soak for 12-24 hours (changing the water every 8), strain and rinse, and blend with 3 cups of fresh water until completely smooth (about 2 minutes on high). Is this a recipe within a recipe? Yes. You're welcome!

Homemade cashew milk is so wonderful because it doesn't have any added gums or thickeners, like the store-bought ones do. It also helps you control how thick, thin, sweet, or flavored each batch is. I find that the ratio above makes really creamy cashew milk, and I leave it that way so that I can water it down if I need to. (But why?) 

This tea is a single-serving size, but if making for friends, you could double it. I wouldn't do more than double because you don't want to over-fill the blender. Repeat as needed!

INGREDIENTS.
1 cup freshly brewed earl grey tea
3/4 cup warmed cashew milk
1 tsp. vanilla bean ghee
8-9 dried rose petals
1/2 tsp. raw wildflower honey

INSTRUCTIONS.
1. Add all ingredients to a high speed blender (I used my @vitamix) and make sure to vent the lid (where the temper inserts) to let a little steam out.

2. Blend on low, and gradually increase to high. Blend until completely creamy and frothy, about 1 minute. Pour into your favorite mug, hit your favorite spot, turn on some gentle tunes, and sip your way to total bliss. (Yes, this is a required part of the recipe.)

It doesn’t have to be the weekend to practice self-care. Any free moment you have could be dedicated to your mental and/or physical well-being.

NOTES:
-I used Numi Organics aged earl grey tea
-I used Fourth & Heart grass-fed madagascar vanilla bean ghee
-I used homemade cashew milk, and added 1/2 teaspoon ceylon cinnamon + 2 dates to the batch
-I used these rose petals, and only the petals, not the leaves or white parts

NUTRITIONAL TID-BITS:
-Ghee is also known as clarified butter, and is derived by a process in which butter is liquified over very low heat for long periods of time to separate and remove the milk proteins. The product that remains is simply the fats from the butter, making it extremely rich in flavor, and packed with vitamins A, D, and E. Ghee contains medium-chain fatty acids, which contribute to our energy production, and do not contribute to weight gain. Ghee is free of lactose, and has a higher smoke-point than butter, meaning you can heat it for cooking and it will not burn quickly like butter. Always look for grass-fed ghee!

-Cashews are a supreme nut source for making homemade creams and milks. Blending them does not require straining, which produces less waste than with other nuts where pulp needs to be removed and discarded. Cashews contribute to mood stability and sleep regularity through their rich source of tryptophan, an essential amino acid (meaning we need to consume it from food) and precursor to serotonin, our "happy" neurotransmitter. Tryptophan is a natural mood lifter, and protects against depression, anxiety, and mood disorders (including PMS).
